SourceDallas - Actor Larry Hagman, best known for his role as J.R. Ewing in the TV series "Dallas," died Friday from complications due to cancer.
Dallas Morning News has reported, Actor and TV icon Larry Hagman passed away Friday afternoon at Medical City Dallas Hospital.
Hagman, who had recently been diagnosed withthroat cancer, had also been battling liver cancer and cirrhosis of the liver since the 1990s due to decades of excessive drinking.
According to a statement released by his family, the actor passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends.
"Larry’s family and close friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday. When he passed, he was surrounded by loved ones. It was a peaceful passing, just as he had wished for. The family requests privacy at this time."
Hagman had recently returned to Texas from his California home to film season one and part of season two of the TNT "Dallas" reboot.
Despite his failing health, the actor was eager to reprise his iconic role as "the man you love to hate," J.R. Ewing. "Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most," the family said in a statement.
